Designing the Perfect Everything Tote Bag

There is a reason why everyone loves a solid tote bag: they are sturdy, effortless, and can handle a lot of weight. I knew that if we were going to do a tote, it could not be just your average tote. This bag needed to be padded, durable, and have pockets for organization.

While designing the Everything Tote Bag, we thought of everything we loved about a tote bag and considered what we wanted for the design:

A large main compartment for bulky items.

Something you expect from a good tote bag is a top-load opening that can hold all sorts of items. Sometimes, you want a bag where you can toss whatever you need to carry on a moment's notice, including oversized items such as Tupperware, groceries, clothing, or athletic equipment.

Plenty of padding.

We all know that when grabbing a tote from your grocery pile, you gravitate towards the one with a rigid bottom insert. This intuition is why we've added a foam insert on the bottom and back panel (which rests against your side). There is no need to worry about awkward items jabbing into your ribcage or your items not laying flat inside the main compartment.

Multiple organizational compartments.

You have one front zippered pocket for items you would like to be easily accessible, like phone, keys, and wallet. Inside the bag, two pleated dividers allow you to neatly store odds and ends like charging cables, books, pens, and even binoculars!

A laptop divider.

A comfortable place for your computer or tablet makes our tote bag double as a briefcase. While you could use this divider for other purposes, we wanted a bag with a sleeve dedicated to effortlessly slipping a computer inside. Consider it a Pro-Tote!

A bag for airline travel.

The Everything Tote Bag can be used as your personal item when flying and easily fits in the overhead compartment or under your seat. The horizontal strap across the back of the bag works wonders when you need to secure the bag on top of a suitcase. If you want to avoid checking a bag, you can get by with a small piece of rolling luggage with this bag securely resting on top. All help make the trip comfortable and effortless.

A stylish and functional exterior.

We wanted our tote to look professional so you can confidently bring it to work. We're using a black vinyl base, which makes the bag stand up on its own and adds a fashionable yet durable detail. The exterior is clean and minimal.

Exterior strap attachments.

Generally, the carrying handle should be enough for daily hauling; attaching the shoulder strap is handy when you need a sling in a pinch. Having a bag you can wear in multiple ways prepares our tote bag for spontaneity.

Cycling and lifestyle compatibility.

While the Everything bag is perfect for commuting via plane, train, and automobile, we still wanted to make this bag usable on a bike. D-rings on the base of the bag allow you to lash the tote into a basket. The discreet daisy chain on the front pocket permits you to attach a carabiner or lights, and the reflective tab is essential for staying seen even on the most poorly lit streets.

Made to last.

Crafted with quality 1000-Denier Cordura and 18oz vinyl, this bag is rugged and built to last. So often, we toss our totes around, and they become weathered and unusable with age. This bag can be washed and reused repeatedly without fear of punctures, rips, or tears. As with all our products, the Everything Tote Bag is 100% made in the U.S.A. and backed by our stellar warranty.
